About

The Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PORTS) is located in southern Ohio on 3,777 acres in rural Pike County. The site is owned by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE). PORTS enriched uranium from 1954 to 2001. From 2001 to 2005 the production facilities went into cold-standby, which means that the process could have been re-started again if necessary. In 2005 PORTS entered cold-shutdown. The site is currently undergoing decontamination and decommissioning of 415 buildings, which also includes the three large process buildings, which cover approximately 90 acres.

The Portsmouth Environmental Information Center (EIC) is located on Shyville Road in Piketon, Ohio. The documents used to reach decisions at PORTS are housed here. At the EIC you can view and request copies of documents relevant to the PORTS site. (See the "Visit Us" tab for complete information.)
